Portage Economic Development Corporation Sponsors National Manufacturing/Career Day Event at Portage High School

manufacturing-day-flyerPortage High School freshmen will have an opportunity to explore high-­‐tech career opportunities in manufacturing facilities right here in Portage, In. In addition, the general public will be invited to view the many creative and unique products manufactured in Portage. All of the manufacturers in the greater Portage area have been invited to set up exhibits and showcase their product or manufacturing process and discuss future career opportunities for the students.

The Manufacturing/Career Day event will be at the Portage High School Fieldhouse on Thursday October 3rd. All 600 Portage freshmen will have an opportunity to learn about future careers in manufacturing from 11:30am to 2:30pm. From 2:30pm-­4pm the exhibits will be open to the general public, enter through door “D”.

“Portage is very fortunate with the diversity of successful manufacturing facilities in our community. From the US 20 corridor, Ameriplex, Northside Business Park and the many steel related facilities at the Port of Indiana, offering Barge, Rail and Truck,” commented Portage Mayor Snyder.

“Our Portage high school students are fortunate to have this career orientation to better understand the skills and education necessary to prepare for a successful career in manufacturing” said Mayor Snyder. “Our goal at Portage Economic Development Corporation is to focus on the development of new jobs and new commerce for the greater Portage area”, according to James Fitzer, Executive Director. “In addition, we work with local employers to keep them healthy and growing. This event is intended to give Portage 9th grade students an introduction to career opportunities in manufacturing early in their high school years. We are also hoping the parents and general public will come out and learn more about the great opportunities in manufacturing”, Fitzer commented.
