The Board of Trustees for Porter Health Care System is pleased to announce that Sean T. Dardeau has been named CEO of Porter Health Care System, and Market CEO for Northwest Indiana. He will begin his new position Feb. 5.
In his role, Dardeau will oversee operations for Porter Health Care System, and as Market CEO will work in collaboration with Ashley Dickinson, CEO of La Porte Hospital and Starke Hospital, to synergize care and services for the region.
“Sean is a seasoned healthcare leader with nearly 25 years of experience, and proven leadership in strengthening care coordination, operations, and medical staff relations at hospital systems large and small. We are pleased to welcome him to the community,” said Jac Cooper, Chairman of the Porter Health Care System Board of Trustees.
When asked what drew him to the opportunity in Northwest Indiana, Dardeau said, the people.
“When we arrived [for my interview] the whole family was impressed with the community, its people, and the surrounding opportunities both in and outdoors. What sealed the deal for me were the people I met at the hospitals. The boards and medical staffs and directors made an impression on me. It was clear to me they wanted leadership that would protect the community asset they had already built in all three communities. The leadership teams at these hospitals are focused on the future and the long term welfare of the communities they serve. I am honored the have selected me for their team.”
Dardeau added that the impressive scope of service offered by Porter, coupled with the depth of talent, also was a draw for him.
Dardeau will come to Porter from South Carolina, where he has served as Market CEO for Mary Black Health System, a network of two independent hospitals in Spartanburg and Gaffney. He was promoted to this role in June of last year after serving as CEO Mary Black-Spartanburg since early 2014.
Professional opportunities have given Dardeau an opportunity to work in communities across the southeast, supporting hospitals and physician clinics in Alabama, South Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia. He has experience in rural acute care hospitals and large urban tertiary hospital operations. He has demonstrated physician recruiting success and network expansion in his previous healthcare work.
Dardeau earned his bachelor’s degree in economics and business administration from King College in Bristol, Tennessee, and his master’s degree in business administration from Averett College in Danville, Virginia.
Dardeau has been active in the Rotary Club of Spartanburg, served on the advisory board of directors for Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine – Carolinas Campus, and on the boards of the South Carolina Hospital Association, and Upstate Employers Network of Spartanburg.
He is looking forward to relocating to Indiana with his wife and teenaged son and daughter.
“Several folks have asked us about our ability to adapt to ‘cooler’ weather. My wife and I grew up in the mountains of Virginia so we have some experience. We’ll monitor the kids closely and we’ll get the dogs jackets and boots and enjoy their reaction!”
