1st Source Bank Announces Recipients of 2017 Ernestine M. Raclin Community Leadership Award

1st Source Bank announces the recipients of the 19th annual Ernestine M. Raclin Community Leadership Award. Ten community volunteers were selected for embodying the spirit, values, passion and leadership of Ernestine M. Raclin, past Chairman of 1st Source Bank and 1st Source Corporation. Their efforts span arts and education, social and human services, or economic development.

1st Source Bank honors these award recipients for their outstanding leadership in the community:

Kevin Boyer, CEO of the Elkhart Clinic, in Elkhart, Indiana is recognized for his leadership role with several organizations including ADEC, Inc., Marshall County Community Foundation and the Triton School Corporation. He is also active in the Etna Green Church of Christ where he teaches Sunday School.

Troy Smith, partner, owner, and practicing Physical Therapist at Indiana Physical Therapy in Fort Wayne, Indiana is a champion for children in the community through volunteer service with Big Brothers Big Sisters of North East Indiana, where he also participates in Real Men Read, and with Central Lutheran School.

Jon Winey, Commercial Insurance Producer at Winey Insurance in Chesterton, Indiana has used his creative side to benefit the fundraising efforts of multiple events through the Chesterton Duneland Kiwanis Club and Duneland Family YMCA, as well as their affiliate organizations. He was also a dancer in the Chesterton’s Dancing Like the Stars event.

John DeSalle, President of Hoosier Racing Tire, Corporation in Lakeville, Indiana desires for his community to be a better place to live, work and raise families. He is an impactful leader with the South Bend Elkhart Regional Development Authority, Ancilla College, Northern Indiana Workforce Board and the Blue Ribbon Committee for the Boys and Girls Club of Marshall County. He has helped generate millions of dollars for multiple projects in the community.

Dave Umber, CEO of family owned and operated Umbers Do-It Best Hardware in Ft. Wayne; is a faith-filled mentor in the community. After surviving cancer, he is currently mentoring other men who have been diagnosed with the disease as they journey through discovery, treatment, fear of loss, and celebration of survival. He is also a foster parent with his wife, Barb, and volunteers with Homebound Meals, Inc., Blue Jacket, Inc., and the Waynedale Improvement Team.

Joan Rhoade, President of Personnel Partners, Inc. a staffing firm in Elkhart; spends her time serving on the Board of the Salvation Army. She has played an important role in getting participation in the annual Gala dinner honoring community leaders and raised significant amounts for the non-profit. One of her other exciting collaborations is the Feast to Feed project serving the Elkhart community.

Jim Trout, manager and estimator at Trout Glass and Mirror, a 40- year old family business in Chesterton, Indiana, was raised with the volunteering spirit. Jim spends his leadership time dedicated to the Duneland YMCA, Chesterton/Porter Rotary Club, and, most recently, Boy Scouts of America. His talents include fundraising, building project oversight, and collecting food.

Dr. Julie Lauck, Associate Superintendent for Valparaiso Community Schools; is dedicated to improving safety, education and culture in her community. She helped establish uniform school safety procedures in the event of an active shooter or other emergency. Julie fundraises for both the Memorial Opera House Foundation and the Housing Opportunities Board of Directors.

Tom Western, owner of Western Farms in Whitley County of Ft. Wayne has always had a passion for making the community a better place to live and a goal of leaving it better than when he found it. Tom was a volunteer fireman for over 40 years, and served the Northeastern Rural Electric Membership Cooperative Board for 30 years. He now serves on the local Whitley County 4H Club Board and Whitley County Council.

Camille Garrison, Marketing Director at Kingston Residence Assisted Living in Fort Wayne; loves taking care of the senior citizens and veterans in her community. Camille is the co-founder for the Waynedale Community Improvement Team and brought bridge expansion, sidewalk widening and trail connection projects to her community. She is also a leader in the Northeast Indiana Honor Flight Board.

The Ernestine M. Raclin Community Leadership Awards were established by 1st Source to honor 1st Source’s business customers who demonstrate leadership in their volunteer activities. The award also honors Ernie, Chairman Emeritus of 1st Source Corporation, who set an outstanding example throughout her career by giving her time, talents, and leadership to help others.
