Janet Bloch Takes the Helm at Lubeznik Center for the Arts

Janet-BlochA changing of the guard at Michigan City's Lubeznik Center for the Arts (LCA) was announced Friday. Janet Bloch, long-standing Director of Education at the Center, has been named to replace Erika Hanner outgoing LCA executive director, according to LCA Board President, Nick Bridge.

"We are very confident in Janet's ability and commitment to the LCA," said Bridge. Bloch holds a Master of Fine Arts degree from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Before coming to the LCA, Bloch served for a decade as gallery director for Woman Made Gallery in Chicago, where she curated exhibits and developed programs on the topic of marketing one's art. Bloch authored a book on the subject, entitled "Strategic Marketing Tools for Visual Artists."

Since 2009, Bloch has served as Director of Education of the LCA. During her tenure, she has forged dozens of successful arts partnerships and outreach programs throughout the region. Her efforts have resulted in a highly recognized, vibrant educational arts program serving young people and adults across the Michigan City community. She has also played an integral role in writing many successful grant proposals for the LCA, attaining essential funding for its programs.

"I have spent my entire life in the arts, and I know what a positive impact they can have on a community. Lubeznik Center for the Arts is a cultural treasure. I want everyone in our region to feel welcome here and enjoy the excellent programs we offer. I believe that when people feel some ownership of institutions, they will care for and nurture them. I am thrilled to be part of LCA's next chapter," Bloch said.

"I want to thank Erika Hanner for her service to the LCA over the past two years and wish her well in her future endeavors," said Bridge.

The LCA has provided arts experiences for the public, enhancing education, economic development, and quality of life throughout the region for more than 35 years. Adjacent to Michigan City's lakefront, the LCA welcomes members and guests to experience art through an eclectic mix of exhibitions, classes, cultural performances, and memorable after-hours events. In addition to a full schedule of contemporary art exhibitions, the LCA is home to permanent and outdoor art collections along with a Gallery Shop featuring hand-crafted artisan items.

LCA weekday hours are from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM (CDT). Weekend hours are from 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM (CDT). The LCA offers extended hours to 7 PM on Thursdays between Memorial Day and Labor Day. For more information, please visit www.lubeznikcenter.org or call 219-874-4900.
