Dean Mazzoni Chosen New President, CEO for Franciscan St. Anthony Health-Michigan City

franciscan-alliance-mcDean Mazzoni, who has held executive positions at five hospitals, including for-profit and not-for-profit facilities, has been named the new president and chief executive officer of Franciscan St. Anthony Health-Michigan City.

He will assume his duties in mid-January.

Mazzoni has served for three years in his current position as vice president and site administrator at Voorhees Hospital, a 398-bed facility, in Voorhees, N.J.

Prior to joining Voorhees, he was vice president of operations at Marlton Hospital, a 198-bed facility in Marlton, N.J., for six years. Mazzoni was chief operating officer for two years at the 257-bed, two-campus, University Medical Center in Lebanon, Tenn.

“During the course of his nearly 20-year career, Dean has compiled a solid track record of improving the quality of care, patient satisfaction and finances at all of the organizations he has served,” said Kevin Leahy, Franciscan Alliance president and chief executive officer, adding, “Dean also has experience working in a Catholic hospital (Saint Clare in Denville, N.J.) and is very happy to return to the Catholic health care ministry as the CEO of Franciscan in Michigan City. We are happy and proud to have him.”

Mazzoni received his undergraduate degree in social and behavioral sciences from Johns Hopkins University, a master’s degree in public health/health care administration from UMDNJ/Robert Wood Johnson Medical School, and a master’s degree in business administration, with a concentration in corporate finance/strategy, from the University of Notre Dame.

Mazzoni is a fellow in the American College of Healthcare Executives, has served as a mentor for the Healthcare Leadership Network of Delaware Valley, and is a member of the American Public Health Association.

He has been active in numerous civic organizations, among them the Boys & Girls Clubs of America, and has served on their boards of directors.

Mazzoni will be at the helm of a new Franciscan Alliance hospital campus that is scheduled to open in 2017 near U.S. 421 and Interstate 94, and will be in conjunction with the current Homer Street location, which will continue to be used for ambulatory and selected inpatient services.

Franciscan Alliance has served the Michigan City community for 112 years.

In addition to the latest technology and innovations in patient care, the new facility will feature up to 120 private, inpatient rooms, outpatient services and a medical office building.

Construction is scheduled to begin in spring 2016.

Franciscan Alliance owns nearly 70 acres at the site, which will allow room for expansion.
