Porter Regional Hospital Celebrates Third Anniversary by Thanking Physicians and Associates for Success of New Hospital

Porter-New-Hospital-Coming-SoonAugust 25, 2015 marked three years since Porter Regional Hospital opened its doors to better serve the healthcare needs of the residents of Porter County and surrounding communities.

“Since its opening in 2012, Porter’s physicians and associates’ commitment to medical excellence and personalized care has been the key to the new hospital becoming the regional referral center for Northwest Indiana,” said Porter Health Care System CEO Steve Lunn. “Today as we celebrate the hospital’s third anniversary, I want to thank each of them for all they do, and their enduring dedication to Porter.”

Porter Regional Hospital, located on the corner of Highway 6 and 49 in Valparaiso, was built to replace the 73-year-old Porter Hospital located in downtown Valparaiso. Although the new hospital is more than double the size of the previous facility, the organization is already eyeing a possible expansion to accommodate more patients and the community’s growing heath care needs.

“Porter Regional’s opening was a win-win for our entire community,” said Porter Health Care System’s Chairman of the Board Dave Rose. “From the development of new jobs and surge to the economy, to now having the finest regional medical facility right here in our own backyard, everyone has benefitted. As a Porter County resident most of my life, I couldn’t be more pleased to see the new hospital’s success.”

“Porter Regional Hospital is centered on quality, compassion and service. Our goal is to serve all healthcare needs from infancy through retirement and provide a higher level of care compared to most community hospitals,” said Lunn. “Porter already offers nearly every service provided at Chicago teaching hospitals with the exception of transplants. From a quality-of-care perspective, it is our goal to be in the upper echelon of hospitals nationwide.”

Major milestones since the opening include the addition of 346 new jobs and $40.9 million in new wages. The hospital reports that since opening in August 2012 it has:

Screened 22,000 women for early detection of breast cancer
Attracted 112 new physicians to the hospital
Added 26 new service locations
Treated 150,000 emergency patients in the ER

Taken care of 56,000 people at our Urgent Care centers

Lunn joined Porter in March 2014, and stated it was immediately evident that Porter Regional Hospital’s physicians and employees consistently showed their dedication to the long-term health and well-being of Porter County patients, their families and the entire community by providing quality clinical services. “Just this past year, Porter was recognized as a Top Performer on Key Quality Measures by The Joint Commission, the nation’s leading accreditor of health care organizations; as well as broke ground on a new full-service ER in Valparaiso that will provide approximately 50 new positions and faster access to emergent care for Porter County residents,” he said.

To celebrate its third anniversary, Porter Regional is hosting a family-style cookout for all Porter associates, medical staff and volunteers on Friday, August 28.
