Portage Economic Development Corporation Names New Leader

Fitzer to Take Helm as Interim Executive Director

The Portage Economic Development Corporation (PEDCO) is pleased to announce that Jim Fitzer will be the Interim Executive Director of the organization. Fitzer recently retired from NIPSCO as Manager of Public Affairs after a 38 year career in various management positions with the company. He also serves on the board of directors for Opportunity Enterprises, The Boys and Girls Clubs of Porter County and is heading up the transition team for Portage Mayor-Elect Jim Snyder.

“Bringing in Mr. Fitzer is an opportunity for the new mayor and his leadership team to gain critical knowledge and insight about PEDCO, its partner organizations and the work being done to create jobs and capital investment in Portage,” said Diane Thalmann, PEDCO Board Chair. “PEDCO understands the importance of regional and state economic development efforts and we believe that Jim will be an asset to maintaining and building relationships to benefit Portage.”

In his official capacity, Fitzer will oversee the day to day operations, economic development activities and represent PEDCO at regional meetings. He will work with the PEDCO Board and members to further promote Northwest Indiana and the Greater Portage Area as an ideal location for business.

PEDCO serves the economic development needs of the Greater Portage Area, including new business attraction and existing business retention and expansion. PEDCO is a key partner of the Northwest Indiana Forum, the Porter County Economic Development Alliance, and the Indiana Economic Development Corporation.
