The 2017 annual meeting of the Duneland Chamber of Commerce celebrated their triumphs of 2016, welcomed new members and said goodbye to those retiring from the board and are prepared to face 2017 with determination and their usual impressive effort.

Duneland Chamber President Maura Durham offered a warm welcome and introduced Jim Starin, the Duneland Chamber of Commerce Chair.

“We’re very happy you’re all here,” Starin told the group that gathered at the Blue Chip Casino in Michigan City Wednesday night. “I’d like to thank the 2016 board of directors.”

He had each of them stand as their names were called, and they all received applause.

An important part of the meeting is saying goodbye to the retiring members. This year that was Scott Mundell of Franciscan Alliance and Ann Lichnerowicz of Edible Arrangements.

Lichnerowicz will be remembered by the board for her insights on small business and her ability to prioritize her family, as well as a busy work schedule, and still make time for the chamber.

Mundell will be remembered for his contributions to the community as a whole and his advice when it came to keeping up with finances. Chamber members expressed excitement to see him succeed as Chesterton High School’s assistant wrestling coach.

Durham presented a plaque to Mundell and let the crowd know Lichnerowicz was unable to attend.

The Election of the 2017 Board Members and Board Directors also took place at the meeting.

Bob Capeheart, Ambassador Committee Chair, presented the Ambassador Committee Member of the Year Award to Jim Kristoff of State Farm Insurance.

Kirk Futrell, membership committee chair, presented Nicole VanDuyn of the American Cancer Society with the Membership Committee Member of the Year award.

The Duneland Chamber of Commerce serves more than 400 members and holds as its main objective the facilitation of the interests of the Duneland community. The Chamber seeks to enrich the lives of area residents and ensure the economic vitality of our Duneland community.

Upcoming events for the Chamber include a community coffee event on Feb. 28 and the Corkscrew & Brew on March 18 at Thomas Centennial Park in Chesterton.
