Intro to Canning
Friday, August 1 @ 10:00 am - 12:00 pm

Come learn canning basics in this hands-on introductory class. Join class instructors Roberta Mead and Barb Blake, both having over 35 years of traditional food preservation history. You will learn what equipment required to can and tips on where to purchase canning supplies, basic canning techniques with step-by-step, hands-on, visual, instructions including printed hand-outs and resources of local farms and fruit markets best for picking and/or purchasing food to preserve. Cost is $20 for the class which includes one preserved item. Pre-registration required by Thursday, July 31st.

Chesterton Art Fair
August 2nd & 3rd

The 56th Annual Chesterton Art Fair will be held on August 2-3 from 10-5 at Hawthorne Park in Porter, IN. This event will include over 90 artists from around the country, showcasing their work in a variety of mediums. Guests can enjoy food, beverage, a children's tent and entertainment throughout the weekend. Admission is $5 at the gate, with free parking. For more details, please see the website.

Duneland Family YMCA
Before and After School Care Registration

Is August 4-7 and August 12-14 at the Duneland Family YMCA Preschool from 8:00 am-10:00 am and 3:00 pm-6:00 pm. The Y Preschool is located within Chesterton Middle School, 651 Morgan Ave. at Entrance #8. New participants will need to complete a registration packet; returning participants need to update each child's information. Payments for the program are drafted weekly using the Y's electronic payment system. A valid driver's license and bank information is required. The public is invited to a free concert featuring the Northwest Indiana Symphony Orchestra at 7:30 p.m., August 7, at Central Park Plaza in Valparaiso. The evening is made possible by BMO Harris Bank, The Times Media Company and the Porter County Community Foundation. Guests are asked to bring their own blanket or chairs. What should you look for when someone knocks at your front door? What questions should you ask to ensure they are who they say they are? Learn more about how to safely identify people who come to your residence and ensure you won't be victimized by scammers or worse. The event will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday, August 21 in the Community Room at Porter Regional Hospital, 85 East US Highway 6 in Valparaiso.

Purdue North Central
Accepting MBA Registrations

Purdue University North Central is accepting registrations from students interested in earning a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree. Classes will begin Sept. 6. Prospective students still have time to begin the admissions process. Deadline for admission is Aug. 6. Students, regardless of their baccalaureate field will be able to complete a degree in less than two years. Classes will meet on Saturdays at PNC - Porter County, at 600 Vale Park Road, Valparaiso. All faculty members are certified by the Graduate School in West Lafayette and are supported by the full teaching resources of Purdue University. The RePurpose Place is a non-profit retail store selling new and gently used building materials, appliances, furniture, cabinetry, counter tops, kitchen and bathroom fixtures, lumber, drywall and more to support the mission of NeighborLink Porter County. Donations are accepted by appointment at 219.617.2077. NeighborLink Porter County is a nonprofit organization that invites Porter County residents to seek free assistance from their neighbors, and invites Porter County residents to join volunteer project teams to provide free assistance to those who are marginalized in the community.
