The annual Hearts of Hope campaign raises funds for the Cardiovascular Research program at the hospitals of Community Healthcare System: St. Mary Medical Center in Hobart, St. Catherine Hospital in East Chicago and Community Hospital in Munster. Besides Perry's personal story and lighting of the trees, the ceremony will feature an update on current advances in cardiovascular research by Cardiologist Anas H. Safadi, MD, remarks by hospital CEO Janice Ryba and includes musical entertainment by the Hobart High School girls' choir, Wolffgang.

On Tuesday, February 18, Porter-Starke Services will host its Learn @ Lunch series with an informative educational lecture entitled, "Affordable Care Act: What you need to know" from 11:30am-1:00pm at Porter-Starke Services located at 3176 Lancer Street in Portage. Jim Baxter and Heidie Berumen of Affiliated Service Providers of Indiana (ASPIN) will be the featured presenters.
This Learn@Lunch will cover the Affordable Care Act (ACA) and help explain the enrollment process and different options available. Mr. Baxter and Ms. Berumen will also touch on what this means for the community and other stakeholders.

Donated toothbrushes, toothpaste, floss and rinse will benefit Boys & Girls Clubs of Porter County Club members.

500 Club Raffle
Portage Township Education Foundationv Over the past six years, the foundation has awarded grants to Portage Township School teachers for their innovative learning projects resulting in student achievement. The 500 Club is a monthly raffle with a limited number of 500 tickets sold. The 500 Club offers three drawings on the second Wednesday of every month. Prizes include $1,000 for the first drawing; $150 for the second and $100 for the third beginning Feb. 12, 2014.
Tickets are $60 each and are valid for 12 drawings. Each ticket remains eligible to win each month regardless if it was drawn in a prior month.
Tickets will continue to be available after the initial drawing.
Tickets are available from any foundation board member or at the Greater Portage Chamber of Commerce office, 2642 Eleanor St., Portage.
