500 Club Raffle Portage Township Education Foundation Over the past six years, the foundation has awarded grants to Portage Township School teachers for their innovative learning projects resulting in student achievement. The 500 Club is a monthly raffle with a limited number of 500 tickets sold. The 500 Club offers three drawings on the second Wednesday of every month. Prizes include $1,000 for the first drawing; $150 for the second and $100 for the third beginning Feb. 12, 2014. Tickets are $60 each and are valid for 12 drawings. Each ticket remains eligible to win each month regardless if it was drawn in a prior month. Tickets will continue to be available after the initial drawing. Tickets are available from any foundation board member or at the Greater Portage Chamber of Commerce office, 2642 Eleanor St., Portage.
Volunteers Needed Boys and Girls Club Boys & Girls Clubs of Porter County invite GREAT people to serve as volunteer tutors in the Link & Learn program at our Clubs in Valparaiso, South Haven, Portage and Chesterton. Volunteer tutors work one-on-one with Club members in 45-minute sessions over the course of a school semester to help strengthen their skills in math and literacy. Dinner at Portage Pizza Hut Boys and Girls Club Have dinner at Portage Pizza Hut (6159 U.S. Hwy 6, Portage, IN) on Wednesday, January 22, 2014 and help raise money for Boys & Girls Clubs of Porter County's Portage Unit. Pizza Hut will donate 20% of pre-tax food sales between 5:00-9:00 p.m. for customers who use the "Fundraiser Night" coupon. Customers must present the coupon at the time of dining to qualify for the donation to the Portage Unit. Master Recycler/Composter Program Recycling & Waste Reduction District Learn about reducing waste, recycling, household hazardous waste, composting and more by participating in the brand-new Master Recycler/Composter program. The eight-week, in-depth course will feature guest speakers and field trips that will help students gain waste reduction knowledge beyond the blue bin.
The program is available to Porter County residents and those who work in the county from 1 to 4 p.m. Wednesdays, Feb. 5 through March 26, in the meeting room at the Porter County Sheriff's Department, 2755 State Rd. 49, Valparaiso.
