An April to Remember

The Portage Chamber has high expectations when planning an event, a publication, or a fundraiser of any sort.

They are able to have these feelings because of the outstanding volunteers and financial help that support every activity the Portage Chamber is involved in.

The month of April was kicked off with the annual Portage Schools Education Foundation Silent Auction Wine & Cheese Tasting Event which the Portage Chamber partners in. With outstanding articles for auctions, excellent choice in wines, and the largest attendance ever, this event met and surpassed its goals in all areas.

This year the Chamber worked on a new Portage township map that is put out every four years and takes four to six months to create from start to finish. The new map has 60 plus new streets with many features that make this a very valuable resource. These fine copies are complimentary and available at the Chamber office. Thanks to the great businesses that sponsored this product.

Every April the Chamber hosts an Administrative Assistant Luncheon and our own Portage Community and Business Night. This was the first time they were held on the same day. April 21st was a day to remember as 80 people enjoyed a wonderful lunch and were entertained by members of the Portage High School Jazz Ensemble and performance by the cast from the upcoming spring musical “Hairspray”.

A few hours later, a record number of Portage citizens made their way to a record number of booths representing small and large businesses from Northwest Indiana. Everyone in the Grant Ballroom enjoyed complimentary food from eight local caterers and restaurants.

The Chamber’s partnership with our park system was certainly showcased in April as 3 of these wonderful events took place at Woodland Park.

Once again, thanks to the volunteers, sponsors, businesses, schools, and community members that made April 2011 a month to remember, and April 21st a very special day.
