Hobart Holiday Market Sparks Holiday Spirit and Christmas Shopping

Hobart Holiday Market Sparks Holiday Spirit and Christmas Shopping

On Sunday, Hobart hosted its 10th Annual Holiday Market at the Hobart Police Court Complex through the morning and afternoon. Nearly 70 vendors from the Region, as well as a few from Michigan and the Chicagoland area, came out to the market to showcase an array of one-of-a-kind, handcrafted items for community members to peruse and buy as gifts for loved ones for the holidays.

The Town of Hobart Special Events Coordinator, Nikki Lopez, like many others, uses the market as a chance to do her last minute Christmas shopping.

"I do all my last minute Christmas shopping here. When it comes to that person who you don't know what to get them, you can always find something here. There's something for everyone and it's something unique and handmade," said Lopez.

While the holiday market was a first time for some, most of the present vendors were returning, which Lopez said she notices happens with the majority of the vendors that they have partnered with previously.

"I think the market speaks for itself when vendors continue to return every year," she said.

Vendor Whitney Payne has been stationing her work at the market for three years now with the help of her friend, Jolene. Payne highlighted in particular all the wonderful, different things people bring in.

"It's stuff you don't even think of," said Payne.

Payne’s friend, Jolene, not only thinks the crafts are awesome, but also respects what the holiday market brings to the community.

"It's great seeing how creative people are too! I just bought some toilet paper rolls for somebody that had embroidered stuff on it - who would have thought of that?" Jolene added. "It's not your big franchise, chain stores. It's people that actually earn money for their families. They put hard work into what they do."

Although the market makes a positive impact for the community of Hobart and surrounding areas, some people come simply to enjoy the market as family time on a Sunday afternoon or to mingle with people they know.

"It gets people out to see their neighbors," remarked Cindy Adolfson.

For Cindy Adolfson and her husband Dale, who have been coming to the market since it started, they not only support the local market, but keep coming back for the socialization as well.
