Bush, The Crawpuppies Keep the Fun Going at 2017 Festival of the Lakes

Festival of the Lakes can be counted on to provide impressive family fun and entertainment each and every year in Hammond's Wolf Lake Pavilion. The highly anticipated event kicked off it’s 2017 season this week and on Thursday night welcomed Bush to the stage. Bush is best known for their 1990’s hits, like Machinehead and Glycerine, but have recently released more studio albums including their most recent, Black and White Rainbows.

Bringing in well-known acts and providing safe, fun entertainment is an excellent opportunity to show off the city’s assets. The festival draws crowds from all over Northwest Indiana and Chicagoland for the musical entertainment and carnival atmosphere. The more people that come through, the better.

“We love this park and we like to show it off,” said Mayor Thomas McDermott Jr. “Each year we keep bringing in big acts and we have bigger crowds, which means it’s more likely we can get better acts each year.”

Bush is a great example of the great acts that the City of Hammond can pull in as crowds grow. The Crawpuppies, a local band from Northwest Indiana, opened the stage and got the crowd warmed up. Gavin Rossdale and the rest of Bush kept an energetic crowd singing and jumping around as they played a mix of their older and newer songs.

“It’s very exciting, we’ve loved Bush since high school, so it’s nice to finally be able to see them, especially for free,” said Laurie Quesada, an attendee of the festival.

Other attendees weren’t as acquainted with the band, but came for the family entertainment and opportunity to take in some live music.

“I love live music. The bands at Festival of the Lakes are always great and every year it gets better,” said Kenna Howard, who attended the festival with her family.

Others come because they know the entertainment will be top-notch. Many attendees return each year for at least one concert, knowing the show will not disappoint.

“I love this, some of the best shows I’ve seen have been at these festivals,” said Tracie Kidd. “I love it!”

Bush is just one of the great bands Festival of the Lakes has lined up as they continue the family fun through Sunday. Attendees can also plan to enjoy Limp Bizkit, Flo Rida, and Intocable throughout the weekend. The events are free for families to enjoy, and allow blankets and lawn chairs for a great view of the stage.

In addition to the quality entertainment at the pavilion, Festival of the Lakes provides carnival rides, plenty of food options, and games to ensure the whole family is entertained. No matter what you enjoy, come play some carnival games while they’re available and don’t miss out on the chance to see some amazing musical acts for free!
