“The Variety Show is put on every year to showcase the talents that you don’t see every day from people that you might not expect those talents from,” junior variety show participant, Claire Hagan said.

Hagan has been a PHS thespian since her freshman year and has participated in the show since then. Portage High School senior, Cody Highlan participated in the show for the first time as a part of the Bitchin’ Ballerinas which is a ballet dance that consists of the Outstanding Young Man program participants.

“I was more nervous behind the curtains and off stage than I was when I was on stage, the lights blind you so then you feel more comfortable up there. The Bitchin’ Ballerinas is always a great act in the Variety Show and if there’s one thing I learned from this experience is that hips are your weapons; use them,” Highlan said.

Senior, Kassidy Cherry, has performed in the show for the past three years as a sophomore, junior and senior. This year she performed a lyrical dance trio with fellow senior Heidi Shackleton, and junior Shelby Sutphin.

“I just hope everyone enjoyed this year’s show as much as we enjoyed performing it,” Cherry said. Also included in the night’s event was a preview of the upcoming spring musical Godspell. That is set to take place in April.
