Portage High School Seniors to Attend IHSPA First Amendment Symposium on March 13, 2015

Portage-Indian-HeadPortage High School seniors Kiley Jones and Jessica Marquez will be experiencing life as professional sports photographers on March 5, thanks to a state contest.

The two were finalists in the photography portion of the Indiana High School Press Association’s annual Sports Contest. Students from across the state each submitted three sports photos, and a panel of judges chose eight students as finalists.

Jones and Marquez will attend an Indiana Pacers game on March 5 and have the opportunity to photograph the game and press conference. They will then attend the IHSPA First Amendment Symposium on March 13 to receive their certificates of achievement.

Jones serves as the Sports Editor of the PHS yearbook, the Legend, and the Sports Anchor for the PHS morning announcements show, Indians News Network. She is a member of the National Honor Society and is on the varsity softball team. Marquez serves alongside Jones as the News Anchor for INN and is the Assistant Editor of the Legend. She is also a National Honor Society member and participates on a travel softball team. Both have been involved with the journalism program at PHS since their freshman years and have assisted in creating publications that have been recognized in state and national competitions.
