Portage High School Attend National High School Journalism Convention

phs-students-journalism-2014Six students from the broadcasting, newspaper, and yearbook programs at Portage High School attended the National High School Journalism Convention sponsored by the Journalism Education Association and the National Scholastic Press Association. During the convention, students attended a variety of workshops to enhance their photojournalism, writing, design, videography, and editing skills.

They also attended a keynote address by ESPN's SportsCenter anchor Jay Harris, who spoke about the road to becoming a broadcast journalist and what journalists must do in order to successfully communicate stories to their audiences. In addition to attending convention activities, the students also visited various museums, including the Newseum, the US Holocaust Museum, and the Smithsonian, and took a tour of the monuments, memorials, and prominent buildings of D.C.
